Leigh Sexton is desperate to have a baby, and Brian Hathaway would be the perfect bio-dad. One of Chicago's most notorious playboys, Brian is no family man, which suits Leigh just fine. An heiress and successful CPA, she is more than capable of raising a child alone. Now all she has to do is work up the nerve to ask Brian to impregnate her...artificially. Leigh has no interest in conceiving the old-fashioned way, despite how her heart races whenever she's near him.
Brian is intrigued by Leigh's request. He's not into commitment, even with a woman as attractive as Leigh, but he's also not the type to make a deposit and then disappear. If he goes along with her scheme, he's got one demand of his own marriage before conception. He agrees to keep things clinicalhe can get sex elsewherebut having a wife at home will keep the husband-hunters at bay.
It seems like the ideal compromiseuntil they start falling in love.

A Daring Proposition was very well written, but the story really bothered me.I'm a bit new to the romance genre. I was expecting these two to fall in love and her barriers to fall away after some hard work. I really liked the slow manner in which Ms. Greene seemed to lead up to that. Then, most of the way through the book our "hero" decides that for Leigh's own good he will break all promises and force her to be intimate with him. It seemed like a horrible way to help her heal from a past near-rape. Perversely this contributes to her love for him. I would hate for a trauma survivor to stumble on this book. Or worse, someone who might read it and think the way to help someone heal is to "storm (her) defenses " and "take away her choices" then say that its her fault.

A Daring Proposition edition by Jennifer Greene Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Leigh Sexton has one dream and that is to have a child. But Leigh's not interested in producing one by normal means. Leigh would like to bypass the man all together. She comes up with a plan to get a successful handsome man to father her child via artificial insemination all she needs to do now is get him to agree.
Brian Hathaway is the perfect guy for Leigh to ask. He is a thriving bachelor, and she is positive he will be fine with donating a little sperm and never speaking to her again. Unfortunately for Leigh, she's wrong. At first taken aback by Leigh's stunning request, Brian sees her quandary as an opportunity for him as well. He's tired of people butting into his business, talking about his bachelor lifestyle, and the vipers who only want him for his money. He would like a child and a wife without the total commitment that goes along with a wife. Brian has a proposal of his own. If Leigh will marry him, he will give her the child she so desperately wants and he will even do it artificially per her request.
It's a bargain to good to refuse. Leigh and Brian strike a deal and begin their artificial relationship, but it becomes harder to maintain their façade when they begin experiencing more than friendly feelings toward each other.
A Daring Proposition is so very good! Jennifer Greene has told a refreshingly beautiful story guaranteed to leave you happy. Leigh and Brian seem to be polar opposites but they make delightful music together. There are so many facets to this story that grab you emotionally and keep you riveted until the final page. Leigh is a strong independent woman but allows her fears to lead her. Brian is a headstrong man used to getting his way and controlling the situation. Seeing him go from this aloof man to a sweet sensitive man is amazing.
A Daring Proposition is truly a wonderful story about life, pain and love. I absolutely love the character of Robert. We all need a person like that in our lives. The idea of Leigh asking Brian to help her conceive via artificial insemination is A Daring Proposition but the way these two navigate the next nine months makes this story marvelous.

This is another of Greene's backlist reissues from when she wrote as Jeanne Grant for Berkley in the 1980's which she's been updating as they roll out and I think she's done a fairly thoughtful job here, even with a couple of anachronisms here and there.
Nunnish, plain Leigh has just finished up a huge accounting project for Brian's firm and approaches him at a company party afterwards. The handsome playboy had been the subject of a gushing write-up in a social column listing him as a perfect genetic specimen and she wants to pay him ten grand to be the father of her baby. She has no interest in having sex with him or having any contact with him after the baby's born, but before she can explain what she really wants, he starts taking apart her bland exterior, revealing a very attractive woman under some ugly clothes. When she gets around to shoving him off of her and telling him why she approached him, he tells her he would want to be involved with the baby and he'll have to think about it.
He finally decides and the two set out their terms they'll marry before they start the in-vitro process, Leigh won't be required to have sex with Brian, he'll be free to keep seeing his mistresses discreetly, she'll handle the public hostess/wifely duties that do along with his professional life and they'll live at her estate. Neither turns out to be what the other expected though and romance blooms between the two, definitely against Leigh's plans.
Both Brian and Leigh were easy to like. Because of her family past, Leigh had horribly low self-esteem and honestly never expected a single thing from Brian beyond his swimmers. She was fiercely protective of the people in her life that she loved and she wanted this baby so badly she was willing to come out of her self-imposed shell to ask for Brian's help. When she started accepting that she was liked and needed for who she was, she was able to open up to Brian and tell him about her past.
Brian was what I like to call a Harlequin Playboy. He wasn't really as much of a male tramp as people thought and as soon as the ring slid on his finger, he never touched another woman even if it looked like he did. He wanted to be a good, loving parent as much as Leigh did, but he wasn't going to settle for a platonic relationship with her to go along with it. At times he came off as a little bit arrogant and he tended to tell Leigh what to do a lot, but that's one of those anachronisms I think. That stuff wouldn't have been out of place in a 1980's-ish book. If I remember right, it would have been swooned over.
While the subject matter of this book is a little dated and there are a few things in it that might make a contemporary reader cringe a little, underneath is all is a nice little story about a couple falling in love and starting a family, just in reverse order. This is one of Greene's nicer re-issues so far.
This is honestly one of my favourite books!! If you want a book that you can't put down until it's done, buy it! It's worth every penny! Jennifer Greene this book was amazing! X
This one was a DNF for me the writing was clumsy and it read like a quick draft just to get the story down, before the author really worked on it. I tried to bear it for over 50% of the book and wish I hadn't even wasted that much time. The sample pretty much says it all so I strongly recommend you get the sample first.
